Job Description

Position Summary

The Kitchen Manager is responsible for overseeing daily kitchen operations, ensuring food quality and safety, managing kitchen staff, controlling costs, and maintaining a clean, efficient, and compliant food production environment. This role bridges culinary execution with operational management.

Key Responsibilities

Kitchen Operations

  • Oversee day-to-day kitchen activities and food preparation
  • Ensure consistency, quality, and presentation of all menu items
  • Maintain workflow efficiency during service periods
  • Coordinate with front-of-house and management teams

Staff Management

  • Hire, train, schedule, and supervise kitchen staff
  • Enforce performance standards and kitchen policies
  • Conduct performance reviews and manage discipline when necessary
  • Foster a positive, team-oriented kitchen culture

Food Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
  • Enforce proper food handling, storage, and labeling procedures
  • Conduct regular kitchen inspections and address violations promptly

Inventory & Cost Control

  • Order food, supplies, and equipment as needed
  • Monitor inventory levels and minimize waste
  • Control food and labor costs within budget
  • Track usage and adjust ordering based on demand

Menu & Quality Control

  • Assist in menu planning and recipe standardization
  • Ensure portion control and recipe compliance
  • Address customer complaints related to food quality

Equipment & Facility Management

  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of kitchen equipment
  • Coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen areas

Qualifications & Skills

  • Proven experience as a Kitchen Manager, Sous Chef, or similar role
  • Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and kitchen operations
  • Leadership and team management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities
  • Basic computer skills (inventory, scheduling, POS systems)
  • Culinary training or relevant certification preferred
