Job Description
Position Summary
The Kitchen Manager is responsible for overseeing daily kitchen operations, ensuring food quality and safety, managing kitchen staff, controlling costs, and maintaining a clean, efficient, and compliant food production environment. This role bridges culinary execution with operational management.
Key Responsibilities
Kitchen Operations
- Oversee day-to-day kitchen activities and food preparation
- Ensure consistency, quality, and presentation of all menu items
- Maintain workflow efficiency during service periods
- Coordinate with front-of-house and management teams
Staff Management
- Hire, train, schedule, and supervise kitchen staff
- Enforce performance standards and kitchen policies
- Conduct performance reviews and manage discipline when necessary
- Foster a positive, team-oriented kitchen culture
Food Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
- Enforce proper food handling, storage, and labeling procedures
- Conduct regular kitchen inspections and address violations promptly
Inventory & Cost Control
- Order food, supplies, and equipment as needed
- Monitor inventory levels and minimize waste
- Control food and labor costs within budget
- Track usage and adjust ordering based on demand
Menu & Quality Control
- Assist in menu planning and recipe standardization
- Ensure portion control and recipe compliance
- Address customer complaints related to food quality
Equipment & Facility Management
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of kitchen equipment
- Coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen areas
Qualifications & Skills
- Proven experience as a Kitchen Manager, Sous Chef, or similar role
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and kitchen operations
- Leadership and team management skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities
- Basic computer skills (inventory, scheduling, POS systems)
- Culinary training or relevant certification preferred
